Mapping the Gap

Dave at Glittering Eye and the folks at Coming Anarchy have been bringing together some excellent graphics for mapping the Core-Gap divide. I must admit some jealousy, because last summer I got the idea to make a mashup in Google Earth of everything from Freedom House’s Freedom Map to Dell’s supply chain to Foreign Policy’s Failed State Index. Each map would be a layer that could be turned on or off, allowing you to create your own overlays to compare and contrast against (of course) Barnett’s map.

Obviously, it never happened (or, optimistically, it hasn’t happened yet).

But that is water under the bridge. I give a hearty huzzah to these folks and commend them for their efforts. Excellent work, keep it up, and I hope to leverage it someday.
